 |
The following fisheries are an integral part of our course, and offer a perfect variety of fishing scenarios for guide training. From small creek to large lake, we have them all covered.
|
| | Big Lost River |
| | The Big Lost River, located over the Pioneer Mountains to the east of Sun Valley provides exceptional fishing in the cold waters that cut through this high plane setting.
The Big Lost passes through the town of Mackay, Idaho and provides incredible scenery along with tremendous fishing opportunities. This vast watershed boosts healthy populations of wild trout, not to mention abundant hatches of aquatic insects.
|
| |
| | Warm Springs |
| | Draining from the high Boulder mountains to the Northwest of Ketchum, Warm Springs is a small freestone stream loaded with mid-size rainbows from top to bottom. Great wading spots can be accessed within 20 minutes from town.
|
| |
| | Trail Creek |
| | A small tributary to the Big Wood River, Trail Creek is the width of a one lane highway and the perfect 2 weight rod experience. Stocked on a regular basis Trail Creek flows down from the high peaked mountains to the east where it drains into the Big Wood River in Ketchum.
|
| |
| | Little Wood River |
| | Located about an hours drive from Sun Valley and fueled by the cool spring waters of famed Silver Creek, this manageable little river is loaded with brown trout and receives very little fishing pressure.
|
| |
| | Magic Reservoir |
| | Magic Reservoir is a recreational manmade reservoir that provides irrigation to productive farmland far to the south of Sun Valley. Located about 45 minutes from town, this valuable resource separates the upper Big Wood River from the lower Big Wood River.
As in most reservoirs, monsters lurk. It is not uncommon to hook rainbows in the 3 pound class and Browns up to 10 pounds. It is best flyfished from a float tube.
|
| |
| | Copper Basin |
| | Copper Basin is the name for a dramatic span of geography that is located high above Sun Valley's Trail Creek Road with a number of beaver ponds and small streams running through it, including the North and East Fork of the Big Lost and Wildhorse Creek. The road is particularly hard on tires and vehicles, but the remoteness and fine fishing is worth it.

| | Silver Creek |
| | World famous Silver Creek has been a legend for fishermen for over 5 decades. This spring creek has among the largest population of mayfly hatches and wild trout of any fishery in the State. It is truly the graduate school of flyfishing with long leaders, thin tippets and often tiny flies. In spite of the odds, with patience, persistence and proper coaching, even a novice can hook one of these legendary trout. If nothing else, the scenery, wildlife and atmosphere is stunning.
